Enough
After class last night when I was laying in bed, and I was thinking of what I call "chronic sins;" sins that we have a hard time stopping even though we know they are not good. I was thinking about the times when I struggled with certain "chronic sins" and this song popped into my head; All of You is More than Enough. It reminded me that most often, chronic sins remain chronic because we are not trusting God to fulfill a certain need...we aren't trusting or believing that he is more than enough.

a little encouragement...
I have shared with all of you that one of the biggest areas satan likes to mess with me about is my mouth (or typing hands) whichever is the case at the time. If I allow myself to entertain the thoughts he suggests, I will shut my mouth or tighten my fists so as not to "blow it again" with my unwanted advice or opinions.
Well, I wrote a post on my family blog www.ilovebeingamomma.blogspot.com on September 25th about marriage vows and how most of us really don't even think about what we are saying when we repeat those vows. You can read it {HERE}. Anywho...Those are the kinds of musings...soapboxes...tangents...philosophical rants or just plain opinions I like to share on my blog because I use my blog mostly as a tool for my family to record all of our memories, but also to record my story, God's story in my life. (I know, you are tired of hearing it.) But 'tis true.
Back to the call. A dear friend of mine called me to tell me that she had been caught in a stronghold of fear about her marriage for the past several months because she is working and going to school full-time, raising 3 kiddos and her hubby is also in school and they literally hardly ever get to see one another. She had been trapped in a downward spiral of thinking that her husband had every right to leave her and the kids and she had convinced herself that she wasn't a good wife and he couldn't possibly love her like he used to because of their schedules. Then, she noticed on her facebook account that on her "activity" it said SHE had made a comment on my facebook post about my blog post that it was a good post or something like that (which she hadn't) and next, she noticed that there was a second post saying, "Oops, this is Rich, just realized I was on the wife's account." You see, the funny thing is that the night before she read that post her husband made on my page, she hadn't been on facebook for a few days and didn't see the post but she had a conversation with her hubby about how afraid she was for their marriage. He comforted her and assured her that he was going nowhere and she believed that he meant it, but she still felt fear because of the roller coaster ride they are on. Then, she looked at the date and realized that he had commented on the post before their "talk" and she said peace just washed over her knowing that God was in control and that Rich was in it for the long haul. He meant what he said and she really believed it.
She called to thank me for the post and for being my "real" transparent self again...she had noticed that I had been a lot more reserved on my blog and she was glad I was back. I can't tell you what her call meant to me. God knew I needed that call. He is so good.

My Lesson
I have been dealing with depression this year. I have a lot of anger, guilt, and sadness that has built up over the years. I have refused to deal with it before now. This year started out being one of the best of my life. I met a man through my friend and we started dating. It wasn't long before I was sure he was The One. We seemed to be a perfect match for each other and everyone around us thought so too. In mid-June, things started to go downhill quickly. My grandfather got very sick. He fought for 2 long weeks, but passed away on July 1. By the end of July, I had decided to at least take a break from grad school and get a second job. In the middle of August, out of nowhere, my boyfriend broke up with me. Of these three things, I have struggled with the loss of the relationship more than anything. I am ashamed to admit that, but it's the truth.
When I read the first chapter of this book, it didn't really grab me. I started to journal about what I had read (this is where writing works best for me), and the light bulb started to come on. I first started to realize that my boyfriend had been filling my need for security (he was paying for everything and he's 6'3", 250#). Then I realized that he was filling my need for belonging. Somehow through the course of our relationship, we were only hanging out with his friends and coworkers. Now that our relationship is over, all of the friends I had been seeing every weekend since February are not really there for me anymore. And finally I realized my significance came from being his girlfriend. People we saw every weekend may not have known my name, but they knew I was his girlfriend. Even my family, friends, and coworkers would ask about how we were doing before they asked about me. That brought me so much peace!
I have also started to understand that we try to get these needs filled by people all of the time instead of turning to God for it. Most of the anger, guilt, and sadness I was feeling before stems from one of these needs not being met by a person. I just felt like I really needed to share this with y'all! Have a good week!

Hello ladies! I just wanted to tell a quick story about my day and how God works. I had a “bored” today. For all of you that aren’t on top of the military lingo a bored is something you go to when you get nominated for an award. For instance I was nominated for Airman of the month. Well in order to win I have to go up in front of 3-4 people and answer questions about the Air Force, current events, and enlisted force structure. They judge you on your dress and appearance, military barring, and the way you answer the questions. (The whole person concept) Now, I can talk in front of people I don’t know, however when I am sitting in front of people who are judging everything I say and do Itend to get a little nervous. This however was not my first board. I have been up for Airman of the month about 9 times now but I have never won due to my nerves getting the best of me. I decided I didn’t want to go up for them anymore. I told my supervisor to please start nominating the other airman in the office for a while. I hadn’t gone up for a bored for a few months until today. I found out on Monday that I had a bored on Friday. I put it off and put it off and then last night I realized that my bored was today. So a friend of mine helped me study and get ready for it, even though I knew no matter how much I studied I would ruin it by my nerves. Well I shared my nerves with my amazing roommate and awesome friend. She said to just pray about it, something I never have thought to do. Well on my way out the door this morning I ran into Jessica and Jeanna. They could tell I was very nervous and to say the lease unenthusiastic about going to my bored, so we prayed together and asked God to let me be calm and just do my best. So I get to the bored and of course as usual my stomach is full of butterflies. I was so nervous like I always am. Then one of the verses that Jessica posted on this blog the night before came through my mind,Philipians 4:13, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” As I walked into the room of the 3 scary sergeants that were judging every step I took I felt the nerves disappear. I answered my questions with ease I did everything I was supposed to and when I was done I knew I just knew that that was God. The craziest thing about it was that when I went back in to get my feedback. (where they tell me what I did wrong and what I did right) They said I was too relaxed. They said I didn’t have enough military barring. As they were saying this too me I just smiled. I was happy with being too relaxed because I felt like God was showing me that he can do anything. He can make your worry and fears go away. So award or no award I learned something very valuable today.
